How to put photos on your iPhone from a computer
Getting photos onto an iPhone is harder than getting them off. A Mac can AirDrop them; otherwise the usual ways are syncing through Finder or Apple’s device app, or uploading to iCloud. RoomDisk does it over Wi-Fi in the browser on both, with no app to install, and the photos land in your Photos app.
Over Wi-Fi with RoomDisk
- On the iPhone, open roomdisk.com/app in Safari and choose Use this device as the spare disk. It shows a code.
- On the computer, open roomdisk.com/app too and scan the iPhone’s code with the webcam. No webcam? Tap Share link on the iPhone and send it to yourself (email, Messages or AirDrop), then open it on the computer.
- On the iPhone, tap Scan reply and point the camera at the computer’s screen. Both say Connected.
- On the computer, choose the photos (or drop a folder onto the page) and send.
- On the iPhone, open Files in RoomDisk, select the photos and tap Save. In the share sheet, choose Save Images (or Save to Files).
The usual ways
- AirDrop (Mac only): select photos in Finder or Photos, Share › AirDrop › your iPhone. Quick for a few.
- Sync from a computer: Finder on a Mac, or the Apple Devices app (or iTunes) on Windows, can sync a folder of photos to the iPhone. Synced photos can’t be deleted on the iPhone one by one, and the next sync replaces them.
- iCloud Photos: upload at icloud.com or with iCloud for Windows, and they appear on the iPhone. Needs space in your iCloud plan.
- Email or chat to yourself: fine for one or two, but most apps shrink photos and videos.
Why the Wi-Fi way is handy
- Works from Windows, Mac, Linux or a Chromebook, in the browser.
- Full quality: the exact files, checked on both devices.
- Your own photos, not a sync: save the ones you want, delete them later like any other photo.
- Big videos too: no attachment limits, and a dropped transfer continues where it stopped.
After saving the photos to your Photos app, delete them from RoomDisk’s Files on the iPhone, so they don’t take up space twice.
Questions
Can I put photos on my iPhone from Windows without iTunes?
Yes. Upload them with iCloud for Windows, or send them over Wi-Fi with RoomDisk in Chrome or Edge, with nothing to install.
Do photos keep their quality?
With RoomDisk, yes: the original files are copied and checked. Chat apps and email usually compress them.
Can I do it the other way round too?
Yes, that’s what most people use RoomDisk for: moving photos off the iPhone to a computer. iPhone to PC, iPhone to Mac.
