Access files on your home computer from your phone, anywhere
You’re out, and the file you need is on the computer at home. Remote-desktop apps make you drive the whole computer from a tiny screen; cloud sync means uploading everything first. RoomDisk Anywhere opens just your files, straight from your phone.
Set it up once
- On the computer, tablet or old phone that will keep your files, open roomdisk.com/app and choose Storage disk.
- Pair your phone once at home: scan the code, show the reply, tick Remember.
- On the disk, open Settings and turn on Reach from anywhere. Keep it plugged in and stop it from sleeping.
- Away from home, open RoomDisk on your phone and tap Connect under “Away from your storage disk?”.
What you can do from your phone
- Browse folders and thumbnails
- Open photos and documents
- Play videos and music without downloading them first
- Save a file to your phone, or send new photos home
How it compares
- Remote desktop shows the whole computer screen on your phone. Powerful, but slow to use for “just get me that file”.
- Cloud sync (OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox) needs everything uploaded first, and space you pay for.
- A home server or NAS with a VPN works well, but takes hardware and setup.
- RoomDisk Anywhere opens the files you keep on the disk, from a browser, after one pairing at home.
What to know
- The disk has to be on. It must be online with RoomDisk open. A laptop that sleeps when the lid closes can’t be reached; set it to stay awake while plugged in.
- Your files live in one place. They’re on that device only, not copied to a cloud. Keep a second copy of anything you can’t lose.
- Speed follows your home internet’s upload. Photos and documents are quick; big 4K videos may need to load before they play smoothly.
- Some networks block direct links. Many mobile carriers and some strict office or hotel Wi-Fi don’t allow devices to connect directly. There you still see your folders and small previews; the rest waits for another Wi-Fi. Check your network.

Questions
Can I see every folder on my computer?
No, only what’s on the RoomDisk disk: the files you sent to it, or the folder you chose when setting it up. The rest of the computer stays private.
Do I need to open ports on my router?
No. The devices find each other with two short, locked messages, then connect directly.
Which devices can connect?
Only devices you paired in person with Remember ticked.
Try it with the two devices you have
