Will Anywhere work on my network?

RoomDisk Anywhere links your phone straight to the spare disk at home, with nothing in between. Most networks allow that; some don’t. This check tells you in about three seconds, before you pay anything.

Run it in two places

A link needs both ends to allow it. Run the check where you’ll be (work, school, a café you go to) and once at home on the Wi-Fi your spare disk uses. If both say yes, Anywhere should work between them.

What the result means

  • Yes, Anywhere can work from here. This network keeps your device’s address steady, so a direct link can open. Most home internet and many public Wi-Fi networks are like this.
  • This network blocks direct links. It gives your device a different address for each contact, or stops the check from getting out. Common on mobile data and on strict office, school, hotel and guest Wi-Fi.
  • Couldn’t check. The device is offline, or this browser can’t run the check. Try again in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.

If it’s blocked

You don’t lose everything. From a blocked network, RoomDisk Anywhere still shows your folders, file names and small previews, so you can find what you need. Opening, saving and sending wait until you’re on a network that allows a direct link, and RoomDisk picks them up again by itself when you are.

  • Try another Wi-Fi: home, a friend’s, or a café.
  • Turn off a VPN or ad-blocking app and check again: some route everything a way that blocks direct links.
  • At work or school, the guest network sometimes works when the main one doesn’t, or the other way round.

RoomDisk doesn’t send your files through anyone else’s server, ever. That’s why it needs a network that allows a direct link, and why it never uses your mobile data for big files.

What the check does

It asks two public address services (Cloudflare and Google) how your device’s connection looks from outside, and compares the answers. They see your connection’s address, like any website you visit. Nothing about you or your files is sent, and nothing is saved.

Questions

Is the check free?
Yes, with no account. Run it as often as you like.
Does a “yes” guarantee it will work?
Not quite: the network at home matters too, and some networks change their rules. Run it in both places; if both say yes, it almost always works.
Does it use mobile data?
A few kilobytes, about the same as opening a small web page.
Why not just send files through a server when the network is blocked?
That would mean your files passing through someone else’s computer, and a monthly cost to cover it. RoomDisk keeps files between your own devices only.
